🦋 IC Information

Character Name: Gamora
Age: 29
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Canon Point: Avengers: Infinity War, after revealing the location of the soul stone to save Nebula
Character History: https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Gamora
Canon Abilities: https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Gamora#Powers_and_Abilities

They’re listed in detail above. The short version is she has been modified to have super strength, stamina, durability, agility, and a limited healing factor. She has been trained to be a master swordsman, marksmen, pilot ships, and navigate the galaxy. Even shorter version? She’s been made to kill, lead armies to conquer planets, and conduct missions for a genocidal warlord without having to worry too much about her physical body. She’s very good at these things.

Inventory: Her usual black leather attire and a double-sided balanced dagger.

🦋 Personality

Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.

If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?

She would wish for Thanos to die. Gamora has made peace with being the last of her people. She can deal with what was done to her. What she cannot accept is Thanos’ quest to wipe out half of all populations throughout the galaxy. Gamora knows firsthand that Thanos is an unreliable source. His story about what became of people (half were killed off) while the official record confirms time and time again he killed everyone, but Gamora. There’s no reason to believe killing half of everyone off will save the galaxy based on his word alone. His version of reality does not match everyone else’s. Additionally, she doesn’t want people to suffer the way she has. The entire first entry of Guardians happens because Gamora is trying to prevent another planet from being destroyed. She gives up her chance for survival time and time again to prevent something that will happen because Thanos enabled Ronan to do so.

In her mind, Thanos dying wouldn’t fix every problem in the galaxy. There will always be a cruel being with a lot of power. Look at Ego! It will save countless lives. It will prevent Thanos at least from repeating the horrors she experienced with someone else.

If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.

Peter Quill. He’s the only person she has ever willingly followed in her life. While Thanos and his lackeys used abuse to control Gamora, Peter only had to show her what kind of person he truly is. When given the chance to take the money and run, he chose to join her quest to save Xandar from the Kree accuser, hellbent on destroying it. Like her, Peter was stolen from home at a young age and taught to do things he didn’t want to do. He’s been made a thief, much like she was made a weapon. Both actively make the choice to do something good with the skills they have been given.

If Peter wants to go to another realm, there must be a good reason. Someone must be in danger. Maybe the pay is that good. They do have a crew to take care of. Regardless, she trusts him to never do anything to dishonor her. Maybe most important of all, she loves him. For the people she loves, she would go anywhere and do anything.

What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?

Gamora's most outstanding personality trait is determined. Gamora is someone who sees things through to the bitter end. She acts according to what she thinks is right. At first, her greatest goal is surviving long enough to escape Thanos. In order to do it, she sacrifices her morals and relationship with another girl in captivity, Nebula. She does everything she can to outperform her sister, even knowing it will cause her more suffering. Gamora makes herself an expert at knowing what her captor desires most. Her life becomes pleasing him simply to live another day. While she acted out, it was never to the point that would endanger her life. This only changes when Ronan enters the picture. As much as she values her life, Gamora couldn't live with allowing a planet and its people being destroyed. She changes her focus to include saving the people of Xandar. She partners with follow criminals to do it and risks her life multiple times in the process. It is this determination that compels her to enter a hopeless situation to rescue Peter Quill from Ego in Volume 2 and having to be taken down by a fellow teammate who knows it is the only way to stop her. We see it again in Infinity War, where she asks her boyfriend to kill her in order to keep the soul stone from Thanos. Only her love for Nebula allows her to give up. She'll sacrifice herself. The days of her sacrificing her sister are long over. Gamora is a woman with an intense drive. Only her morality and loved ones can make her change course.

Your character gets to return home, but when they do they learn that they've been gone for hundreds of years. How do they react?

Gamora would initially feel relief. By now, Thanos has to be dead. The conflict is over one way or another. She would quickly pour all her energy into figuring out if he succeeded or not. It's only after she gets the answer that the devastation would set in. Her loved ones are surely dead. That would lead her into another spiral of finding out what happened to them. She would stop at nothing to get the answers and recover anything she can of theirs.

Once that is done, it'll be about survival again. It will take her time to get over the loss. Gamora with time would learn to love other people again. She would build a new family for herself. We already see it in Volume 3 her capacity to move on after losing almost everything she ever knew. It would be a long journey of opening back up again. I could see her selecting a path she felt honored them the most. Gamora would likely return to protecting the galaxy in some capacity.

Character Name: Gamora
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe! Most of her character development takes place in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
Canon Informationmarvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Marvel_Cinematic_Universe & https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Gamora

Canon Point Avengers: Infinity War; just as she's tossed to her death.
Age: 29 years old in Zehoberei years.
God Houses:

Heimdall would be Gamora’s pick and easily the one that suits her best. In Gamora’s life she has been both sides of the coin that Heimdall represents: the person who is loyal to themselves (while imprisoned by Thanos) and the one who would give their life for what they believe in (see: her entire motivation in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 1).

Frigg would be the second choice. We see in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Infinity War how deeply she treasures her found family and her arc in the second Guardians movie is coming to terms with how she failed as Nebula’s sister while they still lived with their abuser. She obviously knew the absence of love during her time with Thanos.

I'll refrain from the third since the other choices would be pretty weak in my opinion.

Personality:

The first thing to note about Gamora is how determined she is. Regardless of what cause she serves, she does so with every fiber of her being. We see this even when she is a child. She may have been small, Gamora still fought as best she could against the soldiers separating her from her mother. It is that fighting spirit that caught Thanos’ attention to begin with. We see it as Nebula recounts her childhood with Gamora to the Ravagers. Gamora at this point is so determined to survive that she will even let a girl she views as a sister be ripped apart to guarantee it. We see in deleted scenes that she even goes after Thanos’ enemies and brings back their heads with a smile because this ensures her survival. Her life then depends on convincing her abuser that she is as loyal as can be. She can’t fail.

This brings us to another trait of Gamora’s: she is very clever. We see it in her introduction. She effortlessly plays Ronan in order to guarantee she will be the one to get the orb. Before this she obviously spends years convincing Thanos she is loyal to him. We see even in Endgame that her alternate self will bow to him to avoid being touched. Everything she does is a carefully thought out act to keep herself alive a little bit longer. We see it again when she meets Peter. Clearly he has a thing for pretty girls. She lets him chat her up until it is time to steal the orb and move on to secure her freedom.

The struggle for ownership of the orb reveals something else about her: Gamora cares. As ruthless as she can be to guarantee her own survival, she has a limit. When she finds out that a planet full of people will be slaughtered by Ronan, her conscious cannot allow it. She shifts from keeping herself alive to keeping the orbs out of the hands of those who would use it for evil at all costs. She is willing to die to ensure it happens. Her desperation is what drives much of the narrative of the first Guardians movie. That is her hill to die on.

We see this care evolve in the next movie. Gamora is still a warrior but she also allows herself to become a mother to Groot. She comforts, protects, and supports the sapling throughout the film. She continues on as the voice of reason. This role also goes to show the level of restraint Gamora has a person. She never allows the team to do more than they have to. Just because Rocket can blow up a moon, it doesn’t mean that he should. She shows restraint herself by allowing prisoners to hurt her in the first movie and only using deadly force when absolutely necessary.

This can be a double-edged sword. As a survivor, Gamora finds herself guarded against even the people she loves most. She obviously loves Peter. He correctly calls her out on refusing to act on her feelings. She’s scared of intimacy. While she obviously makes enough progress to be a good maternal figure to Groot, she struggles to accept Peter’s feelings for her despite returning them. She hides the fact that she can dance and enjoys it out of fear of essentially being a person. Gamora is comfortable as a warrior. She still struggles with personhood. She can’t even admit she does love Peter until it comes time to ask him to murder her.

This leads to another trait of Gamora’s: she is very secretive. She is willing to do whatever it takes to protect those secrets. We see in Infinity War that she’s known the location of one of the stones the entire time. She never allows Thanos or anyone else discover this fact as long as she can help it. Up until the very last second, Gamora denies knowing it. She even coaxes Peter, a person she knows to be sensitive, loyal, and loving, to murder her in cold blood in order to keep that knowledge secret. There is only one thing that makes her go against what she believes to be right and that is her sister. By this point, she has grown enough as a person to admit she does love Peter at the worst possible moment, but also allows herself to selfishly protect her sister at the expense of the galaxy. Gamora goes from survivor, to a guardian and mother, and finally she becomes a true sister. She doesn’t stop protecting the galaxy. We see before her death that she is willing to kill herself to protect half of all life in the galaxy. We finally see she won’t sacrifice Nebula for her cause anymore.

In closing, Gamora is a fierce warrior. She will defend whatever she deems important at the time. Her journey is about going from that being her parents, herself, the galaxy, her found family, and finally her sister. We also see she can be cruel at times when serving these causes. She lets Nebula suffer to protect herself. She makes Peter go against his very nature to protect the galaxy from Thanos. She is also loving too. She raises baby Groot with kindness despite growing up in an abusive environment. She protects the family she makes within the guardians with everything she has. She learns to protect and make amends with the sister she once allowed to suffer to save herself. She is also very guarded. Gamora has her secrets. Some may change the fate of the galaxy while others are as simple as enjoying dancing with the man she loves. Who Gamora is based on the capacity to grow and change as the situation calls for. That is what makes her such a fascinating character.
